NEVRA New Years Moto Resolutions
Its that time of year to sit down and make some goals for the next 12 months. While for many you will hear the same tired stuff; loose weight, drink less alcohol, advance my career, blah blah blah… what’s important to us is how you will apply your resolutions to riding. You may already have your own riding goals in mind, but if not, here’s my list to give you some motivation.
Learn to Wheelie
I’ll admit, this has been a new years resolution of mine for many years and here we are again in 2025. I have a plan this time around though. Like many of you I can drop a clutch and give it some gas and power through a gear or two keeping the front wheel in the air, but when it comes to rear brake regulation and maintaining a steady speed, I don’t got it! Add to that, if I’m attempting to sit and wheelie, I’m more than likely going to veer left or right long before I reach the vertical balance point. How am I going to improve? Practice of course, but while the neighbors don’t appreciate the dirtbike going up and down the street every day, I can certainly fine tune some one wheel balance on my mountain bike. Not a complete parallel, but I’m hoping something will translate. Next, I’ve decided almost entirely across the board of my riding, I’m running too high of tire pressure. I’ve got multiple rims, so its time to set one up for slower, more technical riding. I’m not sure if its bib mousses or Neutech Tubliss just yet, but we’re going to do away with the tubes at least in one set of wheels. Lower pressure means better grip and more surface area, that certainly cant hurt my progress.
Reduce Arm Pump
Now at 36 years old my arm pump is as debilitating as ever. Hoping to narrow down the correct warm up routine and regular workouts to combat this. Like wheelies, I do think there is some riding technique that can also be improved upon as well as some bike setup. I may play with a few options on brake and clutch lever orientation and lever bend to see if there’s anything to be gained there. In years past I’ve just accepted it and assumed more ride time would fix this, but I continue to find myself getting passed by riders I know ride less than me once I pump up. I’m not ready for any outside interventions yet, but it is good to know that if I strike out I’ve got the National Motocross recognized McGinley Clinic here in Casper, WY that can dive into my situation a little deeper.
More Moto Trips
I like riding the local spots. Heck I’ve helped carve and cut many of them in and will continue to do so. With that said, I want to ride new places more often. As a racer you get to see a taste of what different areas have to offer, but when the race ends, you’re on your way. I want to travel more and ride with the locals on their trails and their tracks. I want to experience the different riding cultures that come with different areas of the country. This will also help spread the word about the NEVRA App and even find new riders along the way that have given my app a chance. Which brings me to my last resolution…
Grow NEVRA
The NEVRA App is something I truly believe in. My usership is currently low and that has a lot to do with how useful of a tool it is to you. I will strive to bring more and more social content to you as well as continue to put on events. This includes continuing to support the Wyoming Off-Road Racers Association as well as riding clinics like the one we put on with Cody Webb and CW2 Training last summer. As you continue to use and share the app with the people you already ride with, it will only get better. Think of how cool its going to be to know you can simply select a date and location and know you’re going to be able to find someone who’s ready to ride too. No more drawn out coordination to go and excuses on why your buddies cant go, just riders who want to ride.
